Life After Your 21 Day Cleanse

Congratulations! You’ve finished your 21-Day Program! Celebrate yourself!

What does that mean exactly? In the past, maybe our idea of celebrating was eating that cake, having ice cream, or ordering pizza because “we deserved it”… But do you?

Do you “deserve” to feel bloated, nauseous, have a headache, depressed and irritable?

No! You deserve SO MUCH MORE than that!

Celebrate yourself by reflecting over the past 3 weeks, looking and really FEELING how far you have come! Health is hard work. It doesn’t come easy. It’s never “accomplished”. Health is a life-long commitment. Commit to yourself. Commit to your family, your children. Commit to life. You deserve to feel amazing every single day!

Every day (every meal actually) is a new opportunity to choose to either nourish your body, or cause it harm. No, we do not have to be perfect. Remember 80/20. But maybe your 20% is more like…organic dark chocolate or homemade, organic, gluten free goodies.

It’s important not to go right back into your old lifestyle because you have WORKED so hard for this moment! And remember – now that you have given your body a chance to catch a break from all of the foods that were causing it distress, your body will be more sensitive now. And this is a GREAT thing! You WANT your body to respond appropriately. You WANT your body to tell you when you’ve had something that it doesn’t like! You have created a new awareness for yourself! And THAT is something to be proud of!

Another important note is that sometimes in can take up to 3 days to feel the effect of a food sensitivity, and it may not always be a digestive reaction. It could be a headache, a rash, acne, congestion or runny nose, throat clearing, fatigue or even depression and moodiness. This is another reason that it is important to not overindulge right after your cleanse. I recommend only adding in one new food per week to truly feel the full effect of it.

The top foods that are likely to cause a reaction are:

  • Wheat/Gluten
  • Dairy
  • Corn
  • Soy (and all things containing soy, such as soybean oil etc.)
  • Nuts (specifically peanuts)
  • Citrus
  • Yeast
  • Eggs

Life is crazy sometimes! We will have really amazing days, and we will have some not so great days, but it’s all about balance! Breakfast was terrible? Eat a healthy lunch. Praise yourself when you make healthy choices, and give yourself grace when you have backtracked a little. REMEMBER – THIS IS A LIFE-LONG COMMITMENT! You will continue to grow, to learn, and to understand what works best for your body, and your family. Health is NOT a one size fits all!
